The biological effects of electromagnetic field (EMF) irradiation in the terahertz (THz) range remain ambiguous, despite numerous studies that have been conducted. In this paper, the metabolic response of K 12 to EMF irradiation was examined using a 1.0 W m incident synchrotron source (SS) in the range of 0.

Every year, the dependence of optical imaging and holography on computational methods is increasing significantly to the extent that optical methods and components are being completely and efficiently replaced with computational methods at low cost. This roadmap reviews the current scenario in four major areas namely incoherent digital holography, quantitative phase imaging, imaging through scattering layers, and super-resolution imaging.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFOptical fiber Raman and surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) probes hold great promise for in vivo biosensing and in situ monitoring of hostile environments. However, the silica Raman scattering background generated within the optical fiber increases in proportion to the length of the fiber, and it can swamp the signal from the target analyte. While filtering can be applied at the distal end of the fiber, the use of bulk optical elements has limited probe miniaturization to a diameter of 600 µm, which in turn limits the potential applications.

Despite hybrid plasmonic materials display remarkable optical properties due to interactions between components in nanoproximity, scalable production of plasmonic nanostructures within a single-crystalline matrix to achieve an ideal plasmon-crystal interface remains challenging. Here, a novel approach is presented to realize efficient manipulation of in-lattice plasmonic nanoparticles.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFPolarimetry is used to determine the Stokes parameters of a laser beam. Once all four S0,1,2,3 parameters are determined, the state of polarisation is established. Upon reflection of a laser beam with the defined polarisation state, the directly measured parameters can be used to determine the optical properties of the surface, which modify the -state upon reflection.
