A Data-Driven Approach to Appraisal and Selection at a Domain Data Repository.

Social scientists are producing an ever-expanding volume of data, leading to questions about appraisal and selection of content given finite resources to process data for reuse. We analyze users' search activity in an established social science data repository to better understand demand for data and more effectively guide collection development. By applying a data-driven approach, we aim to ensure curation resources are applied to make the most valuable data findable, understandable, accessible, and usable.

Teenage Childbearing Among Youth Born to Teenage Mothers.

Using data from the National Longitudinal Survey of Youth, this article examined how early maternal characteristics, an adolescent's family environment, and the adolescent's own attitudes and behaviors were associated with the odds of a nonmarital teenage birth among youth born to teenage mothers. Multivariate analyses indicated that these domains were closely linked. Early maternal characteristics shaped the later family environment of adolescents (parenting quality and home environment), which, in turn, was associated with the attitudes and behaviors of teens that put them at risk of a nonmarital birth.

A solution to declining autopsy rates--the Decedent Affairs Office.

Can the decline in autopsy rates be reversed by solving logistical problems that impede or deter permissions and arrangements? The authors report an increase in the autopsy rate at their institution after a Decedent Affairs Office was established. Furthermore, the time between death and autopsy has been greatly narrowed, thus providing optimal tissue for diagnosis. As an additional benefit, the number of organ donations has also risen.
