The rat dorsomedial (DMS) and dorsolateral striatum (DLS), equivalent to caudate nucleus and putamen in primates, are required for goal-directed and habit behaviour, respectively. However, it is still unclear whether and how this functional dichotomy emerges in the course of learning. In this study, we investigated this issue by recording DMS and DLS single neuron activity in rats performing a continuous spatial alternation task, from the acquisition to optimized performance.

Textures in images can often be well modeled using self-similar processes while they may simultaneously display anisotropy. The present contribution thus aims at studying jointly selfsimilarity and anisotropy by focusing on a specific classical class of Gaussian anisotropic selfsimilar processes. It will be first shown that accurate joint estimates of the anisotropy and selfsimilarity parameters are performed by replacing the standard 2D-discrete wavelet transform with the hyperbolic wavelet transform, which permits the use of different dilation factors along the horizontal and vertical axes.

The present contribution aims at proposing a comprehensive and tutorial introduction to the practical use of wavelet Leader based multifractal analysis to study heart rate variability. First, the theoretical background is recalled. Second, practical issues and pitfalls related to the selection of the scaling range or statistical orders, minimal regularity, parabolic approximation of spectrum and parameter estimation, are discussed.
