It has frequently been hypothesized that among-individual variation in behavior and physiology will correlate with life history traits, yet the nature of these correlations can vary. Such variability may arise from plasticity in trait development, which can amplify or attenuate trait correlations across different environments. Using the Mexican spadefoot toad (Spea multiplicata), we tested whether relationships between larval growth rate and post-metamorphic behavior or physiology are influenced by a key mediator of developmental plasticity: larval diet type.

Up to 70% of all sudden cardiac deaths (SCD) in persons under 50 years are due to inherited cardiovascular diseases. First-degree relatives to younger SCD patients should be evaluated for inherited cardiovascular disease, as argued in this review. An improved understanding of SCD subtypes and genetics is expected to improve risk stratification and SCD prevention.

We have previously reported the discovery of fungal natural product aspterric acid (AA) as a submicromolar inhibitor of DHAD through self-resistance gene directed genome mining. Here, we reveal the mechanism of AA inhibition on DHAD and the self-resistance mechanism of AstD, which is encoded by the self-resistance gene D.

Arrhythmogenic cardiomyopathy (ACM) is an inherited cardiac disease which predisposes to ventricular arrhythmias and sudden cardiac death. Since the introduction of the first diagnostic criteria in 1994, which focused exclusively on right ventricular involvement, diagnostic guidelines have evolved significantly over the past 30 years to encompass the full complexity of the ACM phenotype. In this issue of Trends in Cardiovascular Medicine, Graziano and colleagues review the advancements in ACM diagnostics which emphasizes a comprehensive evaluation of morpho-functional, structural, electrical, and genetic characteristics.

During cardiac surgery, biopsies may not be immediately stored due to a lack of human or technical resources at the collection site. Assessing DNAm stability in cardiac samples left in suboptimal conditions is crucial for applying DNAm analysis.
