Hypertrophic scarring is a significant complication post burn injury, especially for delayed healing after 3 weeks. Burn injuries healing prior to 3 weeks also have the potential to develop hypertrophic scarring, even when prescribed prophylactic conservative scar interventions. A retrospective chart audit reviewed 326 burn patients treated at a paediatric tertiary hospital from 2014 to 2019 who sustained a partial thickness burn, healed >14 days and did not receive skin grafting.

Synthetic modification of oligodeoxynucleotides (ODNs) via conjugation to nucleic acid binding small molecules can improve hybridization and pharmacokinetic properties. In the present study, five Hoechst 33258 derived benzimidazoles were conjugated to T rich ODNs and their hybridization effectiveness was tested. Thermal denaturation studies revealed significant stabilization of complementary duplexes by ODN-benzimidazole conjugates, with the extent of stabilization being highly dependent on the length of the linker between DNA and benzimidazole.

Objective: The aim of this study is to develop a noninvasive technique for measuring tissue tracer extraction efficiency ( E ) and illustrate it for Tc-99m-mercaptoacetyltriglycine (MAG3) and kidney.

Methods: E was measured in 10 patients with normal MAG3 renography. E is the ratio of tissue clearance-to-blood flow ( Ki/F ).

Oligonucleotides offer a unique opportunity for sequence specific regulation of gene expression in bacteria. A fundamental question to address is the choice of oligonucleotide, given the large number of options available. Different modifications varying in RNA binding affinities and cellular uptake are available but no comprehensive comparisons have been performed.
