Spiny pocket mice are usually divided into two genera, Heteromys and Liomys, and more recently the latter have been subsumed into the former, leaving subfamily Heteromyinae with one genus. However, this arrangement conveys false equivalency among heteromyines, and does not represent the great morphological, molecular, and ecological diversity in this subfamily. To address this, geometric morphometric methods were used to explore interspecific cranial variation in this subfamily, which were then evaluated in the context of recent phylogenetic and taxonomic findings.

Purpose Of Symposium: From September 6 - 8 2022, the Life/2022 Membrane Symposium was held in Frankfurt, Germany, and transmitted live to a worldwide internet audience. The event was part of the Life/Nephrology Campus initiative, a continuous educational platform for the nephrology community to expand knowledge and share expertise on contemporary topics in chronic kidney disease. We describe recent questions and advances in the field, and we underline challenges in the care of dialysis patients and opportunities for integration of new findings into clinical practice to improve patient outcomes in end stage kidney disease patients.

Cardiovascular complications are accompanied by life-threatening complications and represent the major cause of death in patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD). Magnesium is important for the physiology of cardiac function, and its deficiency is common in CKD. In the present study, we investigated the impact of oral magnesium carbonate supplementation on cardiac function in an experimental model of CKD induced in Wistar rats by an adenine diet.
