Primary carnitine deficiency may mimic hypertrophic cardiomyopathy and be mistakenly attributed to genotype-negative sarcomeric protein dysfunction in hypertrophic cardiomyopathy. Although rare, timely diagnosis may have significant implications on management and should prompt testing of family members.

Radiologists generally treat pediatric ileocolic intussusceptions emergently given the potential for worse outcomes resulting from delayed reduction attempts. However, the relevant literature is conflicting. The purpose of this study was to identify factors associated with successful image-guided ileocolic intussusception reduction in children, with attention given to the time since diagnosis.

Community perceptions of contributors and solutions related to neighborhood violent crime: A qualitative interview study.

The current study is part of a community engaged planning phase and aimed to identify perceptions related to the prevalence of violent crime, crime contributors, the relationship between the community and law enforcement, and potential interventions and solutions. In March 2021, semistructured interviews were conducted with individuals from five groups who resided or worked in Bessemer, Alabama: (1) Law Enforcement, (2) Residents, (3) Civic Leaders, (4) Community Leaders, and (5) Victims of Crime. Interviews lasted approximately 60 min and were audio recorded, transcribed, and analyzed according to the guidelines of thematic analysis using NVivo 12.

Chiroptically Active Multi-Modal Calcium Carbonate-Based Nanocomposites.

The development of multimodal nano- and micro-structures has become an increasingly popular area of research in recent years. In particular, the combination of two or more desirable properties within a single structure opens multiple opportunities from biomedicine, sensing, and catalysis, to a variety of optical applications. Here, for the first time, we report the synthesis and characterization of multimodal chiroptically active CaCO nanocomposites.
