External ventricular drainage (EVD) is an emergency neurosurgical procedure to decrease intracranial pressure through a catheter mediated drainage of cerebrospinal fluid. Most EVD catheters are placed using free hands without direct visualization of the target and catheter trajectory, leading to a high rate of complications- hemorrhage, brain injury and suboptimal catheter placement. Use of stereotactic systems can prevent these complications.

Objective: Stereotactic frame systems are the gold-standard for stereotactic surgeries, such as implantation of deep brain stimulation (DBS) devices for treatment of medically resistant neurologic and psychiatric disorders. However, frame-based systems require that the patient is awake with a stereotactic frame affixed to their head for the duration of the surgical planning and implantation of the DBS electrodes. While frameless systems are increasingly available, a reusable re-attachable frame system provides unique benefits.

OBJECTIVE Hypothalamic hamartomas (HHs) are associated with gelastic seizures and the development of medically refractory epilepsy. Magnetic resonance imaging-guided laser interstitial thermal therapy (MRg-LITT) is a minimally invasive ablative treatment that may have applicability for these deep-seated lesions. Background: The clinical and neurobiological underpinnings of transient nonmotor (TNM) psychiatric symptoms during the optimization of stimulation parameters in the course of subthalamic nucleus deep brain stimulation (STN-DBS) remain under intense investigation.

Methods: Forty-nine patients with refractory Parkinson's disease underwent bilateral STN-DBS implants and were enrolled in a 24-week prospective, naturalistic follow-up study. Patients who exhibited TNM psychiatric manifestations during DBS parameter optimization were evaluated for potential associations with clinical outcome measures.
