This study utilized a circular economy approach to convert unripe rice, a low-cost by-product of the rice milling industry, into biofuels using a biorefinery process. The recombinant yeast Saccharomyces cerevisiae ER T12.7 strain was tested for its ability to produce ethanol from unripe rice.

A 47-year-old man with a history of transposition of the great arteries after a Mustard atrial switch procedure and prior inferior vena cava filter placement for venous thromboembolism presented for removal before being listed for orthotopic heart transplantation in anticipation of cardiopulmonary bypass cannulation. The filter was retrieved using a right transjugular approach without disruption of his existing atrial baffle. Contingency planning in the event of unsuccessful baffle navigation included a transfemoral everted filter approach.

While glucagon-like peptide-1 receptor agonists (GLP-1 RAs) have become increasingly prescribed, use is often inhibited by the gastrointestinal adverse effects that patients must endure. Nausea, vomiting, and cholelithiasis are most commonly associated with use, with little to no data or labeling reflecting risk of appendicitis or associated symptoms. Appendicitis etiology is theorized to develop secondary to obstruction of the vermiform via infection or fecalith causing an increase in intraluminal pressure.

Introduction: Diagnostic delay in Hirschsprung disease is uncommon. Different definitions have been proposed but that of a diagnosis achieved after 12 months of age seems to be the most reliable and resorted to. Some authors reported a worse outcome in case of delay.
