A Review on Bacteriocin Extraction Techniques from Lactic Acid Bacteria.

Lactic acid bacteria (LAB) are widely known for the production of secondary metabolites such as organic acids and other bioactive compounds such as bacteriocins. Finding a broad application in food and healthcare, bacteriocins have received increased attention due to their inherent antimicrobial properties. However, the extraction of bacteriocins is often plagued with low yields due to the complexity of the extraction processes and the diversity of bacteriocins themselves.

Vascular Injury with Insertion of Anteroposterior Interlocking Screw of Retrograde Femoral Nail - Case Report.

Introduction: Retrograde femoral nailing is a frequently performed surgical procedure used to stabilize a supracondylar femur fracture. We are reporting a unique case where the insertion of the anteroposterior interlocking screw of a retrograde nail caused vascular damage. Within the elderly patient population, we anticipate the presence of significant collateral blood vessels, which increases the potential for vascular damage during the insertion of a proximal screw.

Massive Gastrointestinal Bleeding Related to NSAID Use in a Patient with Ileorectal Anastomosis.

Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) are commonly used to reduce pain and inflammation in over 30 million individuals daily. Gastrointestinal bleeding (GIB) associated with NSAID consumption has been well documented in gastric and duodenal bleeding; however, NSAID-associated GIB distal to the duodenum lacks extensive documentation. This report highlights small bowel occult bleeding related to NSAID use in a patient with a surgical history of robotic total colectomy with ileorectal anastomosis completed 1 year prior.

Policies and cost analyses of voluntary assisted dying (VAD) laws - a mapping review & analysis.

Objectives: To investigate the current literature on healthcare policies and cost analyses around international Voluntary Assisted Dying (VAD) laws. The study design is a mapping literature review following Preferred-Reporting-Items-for-Systematic-Reviews-and-Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) guidelines.

Methods: Original research articles published between January 1990 to March 2023, investigating the financial cost and healthcare budget effect of VAD laws internationally.
