Clinical assessment of mortality risk in renal transplant candidates in Spain.

Background: Prediction of mortality in wait-listed patients for kidney transplantation (KT) has not been well elucidated. We assessed whether application of the Charlson comorbidity index (CCI) and other uremia-related comorbidities, not included in the CCI, were associated with mortality in these patients.

Methods: We included 3851 adult patients from the Andalusian Registry who were placed on the waiting list for KT during the study period (1984-2012).

By introducing a percentage of conductive material during the manufacture ofsewing thread, it is possible to obtain a fabric which is able to detect variations in pressurein certain areas. In previous experiments the existence of resistance variations has beendemonstrated, although some constrains of cause and effect were found in the fabric. Theresearch has been concentrated in obtaining a fabric that allows electronic detection of itsshape changes.

Determining Position Inside Non-industrial Buildings Using Ultrasound Transducers.

The position determination inside a building where no GPS signal is beingreceived can be ascertained using laser transmitters in industrial situations where there areno people or using triangulation of the signal strength, normally electro-magnetic signals,if the required accuracy is more than a metre. Our solution is aimed at situations wherepeople are present and where the required accuracy is less than 30 cm, such as in shoppingprecincts or supermarkets. To achieve this, a network of ultrasonic transmitters is fittedinto the ceiling which receives a synchronised time signal.

Comparative binding energy analysis of haloalkane dehalogenase substrates: modelling of enzyme-substrate complexes by molecular docking and quantum mechanical calculations.

We evaluate the applicability of automated molecular docking techniques and quantum mechanical calculations to the construction of a set of structures of enzyme-substrate complexes for use in Comparative binding energy (COMBINE) analysis to obtain 3D structure-activity relationships. The data set studied consists of the complexes of eighteen substrates docked within the active site of haloalkane dehalogenase (DhlA) from Xanthobacter autotrophicus GJ10. The results of the COMBINE analysis are compared with previously reported data obtained for the same dataset from modelled complexes that were based on an experimentally determined structure of the DhlA-dichloroethane complex.
