[Olfactory system of crustaceans: structural, functional organization and perspectives of ecologo-toxicological studies].

Based on our own studies and literature data, we considered peculiarities of the structural-functional organization of the crustacean olfactory system and effect of pollutants on it. There are described changes of behavioral reactions based on chemoreception under conditions of pollution of the aquatic medium. Expedience of study of the crustacean olfactory system as a perspective object for ecologo-toxicological studies is substantiated.

[Lipid peroxidation in persons with chronic odontogenic foci of infection].

In 86 patients with chronic granulomatous and granulating periodontitis in the absence of other pathology the lipid peroxidation products levels were increased as indicated by accumulation of malonic dialdehyde and diene conjugates in the whole blood. The relative content of disulphide groups in the red blood cells was increased and that of sulfhydryl groups decreased. The findings correlate with those detected in granulomas.

[Effect of specific immunotherapy on the structural properties of the lymphocyte membranes in atopic diseases].

3-Methoxybenzathrone (MBA) fluorescence was used to explore the structural properties of blood lymphocyte membranes in patients with atopic bronchial asthma and pollenosis treated by specific immunotherapy. An analysis was made of the relationship between the changes in MBA fluorescence and the blood counts of T and B lymphocytes as well as the clinical efficacy of the treatment. As a result of the treatment, the patients manifested an appreciable increase in the MBA fluorescence intensity towards normal and higher limits, provided the results of the treatment were beneficial.
