Alternative reproductive tactics (ARTs) are discontinuous phenotypes associated with reproduction, observed in males of many species. Typically, large males adopt a tactic of competing with rivals for mating, while small males adopt a tactic of stealing fertilization opportunities from the large males. The 'birth date hypothesis', proposing that the date of birth influences the determination of each male's reproductive tactic, has been tested only in teleost fish to date.

Evaluation of incision healing status after transverse uterine fundal incision for cesarean delivery and postoperative pregnancy: a ten-year single-center retrospective study.

Background: Transverse uterine fundal incision (TUFI) is a beneficial procedure for mothers and babies at risk due to placenta previa-accreta, and has been implemented worldwide. However, the risk of uterine rupture during a subsequent pregnancy remains unclear. We therefore evaluated the TUFI wound scar to determine the approval criteria for pregnancy after this surgery.

A novel extraperitoneal cesarean section of supravesical approach: Operative techniques.

Aim: We have established a novel extraperitoneal cesarean section technique by supravesical approach. An advantage of this technique over the conventional paravesical approach is that the lower uterine segment is broadly exposed and that all operative procedures can be performed under direct vision. We present the details of this novel technique.

The International Liaison Committee on Resuscitation engages in a continuous review of new, peer-reviewed, published cardiopulmonary resuscitation and first aid science. Draft Consensus on Science With Treatment Recommendations are posted online throughout the year, and this annual summary provides more concise versions of the final Consensus on Science With Treatment Recommendations from all task forces for the year. Topics addressed by systematic reviews this year include resuscitation of cardiac arrest from drowning, extracorporeal cardiopulmonary resuscitation for adults and children, calcium during cardiac arrest, double sequential defibrillation, neuroprognostication after cardiac arrest for adults and children, maintaining normal temperature after preterm birth, heart rate monitoring methods for diagnostics in neonates, detection of exhaled carbon dioxide in neonates, family presence during resuscitation of adults, and a stepwise approach to resuscitation skills training.
