Vascular Ehlers-Danlos syndrome (vEDS) is a rare disorder that is characterized by vascular lesions mainly caused by vascular fragility, such as spontaneous carotid-cavernous fistula (sCCF). We experienced a patient who presented with sCCF but suffered postoperative multiple vascular arteriopathy complications caused by undiagnosed vEDS. A 39-year-old woman who had no physical and medical characteristics indicating vEDS was referred to our hospital due to sudden onset of headache and pulsatile tinnitus.

Article Synopsis
  • Aging increases the risk of obstructive and fibrotic lung diseases, which are marked by lung function decline due to tissue scarring and excess collagen deposition, primarily mediated by TGF-β signaling.
  • Decorin (DCN) is a key protein that can block TGF-β signaling, and while traditionally seen as an irreversible condition, pulmonary fibrosis might be treatable with interventions.
  • This study found that chicken eggshell membrane (ESM) significantly boosts DCN secretion in lung fibroblasts, especially when combined with proteins like lysozyme and ovotransferrin, suggesting potential therapeutic pathways for managing pulmonary fibrosis.

This study aimed to determine the efficacy of assessing the severity of diabetic polyneuropathy (DPN) in patients with untreated diabetes. Seventy-two patients with untreated type 2 diabetes who were hospitalized for glycemic control were enrolled and divided into the following two groups: patients who had no prior diagnosis and patients who were unattended or had discontinued treatment. Electrophysiological criteria consistent with Baba's classification were used to diagnose and assess the severity of DPN.

Infantile choroid plexus papilloma (CPP) associated with multiple peritumoral cysts is a rare variant of CPP, and clinical course and optimal management are largely unknown. A 9-month-old boy presented with a large solid tumor in the left lateral ventricle associated with multiple peritumoral cysts, arachnoid cysts, and hydrocephalus containing xanthochromic fluid with high protein content. Shrinkage of these cysts and resolution of hydrocephalus were achieved after total resection of the hypervascular solid part of the tumor.
