Olive farming has vastly intensified across the Mediterranean basin recently. This ongoing process has detrimental social and environmental outcomes, but it also represents a unique opportunity to study the impacts of intensification and identify solutions for sustainable management of this iconic and culturally important crop. This interdisciplinary study jointly explores the ecological, social, and economic consequences of olive farming intensification, to identify solutions for sustainable agriculture.

This study assessed feasibility and psychometric properties of the Hebrew parent version of the Pediatric Symptom Checklist (PSC-17), aiming to improve treatment access for children and adolescents with behavioral and mental needs through early screening. The PSC-17 and the Strengths and Difficulties Questionnaire (SDQ) were filled in the waiting room, at three ambulatory clinics in a tertiary pediatric center, by 274 parents using a tablet or their cellphone. The protein zero (P0) glycoprotein is an important component of compact peripheral nerve myelin produced by the glial cells of the mammalian peripheral nervous system. P0 mRNA expression is reduced following exposure of Schwann cells to sublytic C5b-9, the terminal activation complex of the complement cascade. Sublytic complement treatment decreased P0 mRNA by 81% within 6 h and required C5b-9 assembly.

Pre-donation kidney volume and function may be crucial factors in determining graft outcomes in kidney transplant recipients. Mechanisms underlying the divergent effects of ovarian hormones on neuron death induced by TNFalpha were investigated in differentiated PC12 cells (dPC12). dPC12 cells were exposed to 17beta-estradiol (E, 1.0 nm), progesterone (P, 100 nm), or a combination of both hormones for 0-72 h before treatment with TNFalpha (0-150 ng) to induce cell death.
