Although waiting for a reward reduces or discounts its value, some people have a stronger tendency to wait for larger rewards and forgo smaller-but-immediate rewards. This ability to delay gratification is captured by individual differences in so-called intertemporal choices in which individuals are asked to choose between larger-but-delayed versus smaller-but-immediate rewards. The current study used event-related potentials (ERPs) to examine whether enhancement in two neurocognitive processes, outcome anticipation and outcome evaluation, modulate individual variability in intertemporal responses.

A repeated cross-sectional study of socio-economic inequities in dietary sodium consumption among Canadian adults: implications for national sodium reduction strategies.

Introduction: In many countries including Canada, excess consumption of dietary sodium is common, and this has adverse implications for population health. Socio-economic inequities in sodium consumption seem likely, but research is limited. Knowledge of socio-economic inequities in sodium consumption is important for informing population-level sodium reduction strategies, to ensure that they are both impactful and equitable.

Iron supply to Escherichia coli by synthetic analogs of enterochelin.

Synthetic analogs of enterochelin (enterobactin) were tested for their ability to support the growth of Escherichia coli K-12 under iron-limiting conditions. The cyclic compound MECAM [1,3,5-N.N'; N"-tris-(2,3-dihydroxybenzoyl)-triamino-methylbenzene] and its N-methyl derivative Me3MECAM promoted growth, whereas the 2,3-dihydroxy-5-sulfonyl derivatives MECAMS and Me3MECAMS were inactive.

In-vivo inhibition by copper and some Cu-complexes of paracetamol-induced lipid peroxidation in benzpyrene-pretreated mice.

Benzo(alpha)pyrene-induced male mice were treated with 200 mg/kg paracetamol. The ethane exhalation of the animals was taken as an in-vivo index of lipid peroxidation: it amounted to 420 98 nmoles of ethane/kg body weight after 4 hours. A dose of 10 mg/kg of bovine superoxide dismutase had no effect on lipid peroxidation.
