Traumatic brain injuries (TBI) are typically acquired when a sudden violent event causes damage to the brain tissue. A high percentage (70-85%) of all TBI patients are suffering from mild TBI (mTBI), which is often difficult to detect and diagnose with standard imaging tools (MRI, CT scan) due to the absence of significant lesions and specific symptoms. Recent studies suggest that a screening test based on the measurement of a protein biomarker panel directly from a patient's blood can facilitate mTBI diagnosis.

Background: Expediting rotator cuff surgery is expected to facilitate recovery and return to work in injured workers. This case-control study examined the effect of expedited rotator cuff surgery on recovery and work status in injured workers.

Unlabelled: Total shoulder arthroplasty (TSA) has traditionally been performed as inpatient surgery to provide adequate postoperative analgesia via intermittent opioid administration. We developed a regional model for ambulatory TSA using continuous brachial plexus nerve block (CBPNB). We asked whether this regional model would allow us to select patients to undergo outpatient TSA using CBPNB while providing similar outcomes to those patients who were managed with CBPNB and a one-night or longer inpatient hospital stay.

Background: While fracture and nonunion of the olecranon have been reported in patients undergoing total elbow arthroplasty, little information exists about the management and outcome of these cases.

Methods: Twenty-four patients (twenty-five elbows) were studied; fifteen (sixteen elbows) with rheumatoid arthritis and nine with post-traumatic elbow disorders. Twenty-three of the twenty-five elbows presented with an olecranon fracture or nonunion prior to the reported arthroplasty.
