Accurate calibration of polarization-dependent optical elements is often necessary in optics experiments. A versatile polarimeter device to measure the polarization state of light is a valuable tool in these experiments. Here, we report a rotating waveplate-based polarimeter capable of complete Stokes vector analysis of collimated light.

Objective: To present the appropriate medical care standards for organizations that sponsor athletic activities for secondary school-aged athletes.

Data Sources: To develop the current standards and identify current best-practices evidence, the task force used a multistep process that included reviewing the existing 2004 Appropriate Medical Care for Secondary School-Aged Athletes consensus points and cross-referencing of National Athletic Trainers' Association (NATA) statements and official documents from the strategic alliance (the NATA, NATA Foundation, Board of Certification, and Commission on Accreditation of Athletic Training Education). Gaps in the recommendations from the 2004 Appropriate Medical Care for Secondary School-Aged Athletes document were identified by the task force, and the new appropriate medical care standards were developed and refined.

Objective: While exercising before a stressor has been shown to limit the magnitude of stress responses, we test the use of exercise as a coping mechanism after the stressor, to limit the duration of the stress response.

Design: After doing difficult mental arithmetic with harassment, male and female undergraduates (N = 102) either walked in place or sat still for 3 minutes, then all sat for a recovery period.

Main Outcome Measures: Continuous blood pressure and heart rate monitoring was done throughout.

Objectives: Interventions that reduce the magnitude of cardiovascular responses to stress are justified, at least in part, by the notion that exaggerated responses to stress can damage the cardiovascular system. Recent data suggest that it is worthwhile to explore, in addition to the magnitude of the cardiovascular responses during stress (reactivity), the factors that affect the return to baseline levels after the stressor has ended (recovery). This experiment examined the effect of listening to music on cardiovascular recovery.

Objective: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the usefulness of a tissue marker clip in patients undergoing preoperative chemotherapy for breast carcinoma.

Materials And Methods: Between June 1996 and July 1998 (26 months), a tissue marker clip was placed in 29 patients with breast carcinoma who showed significant clinical response to preoperative chemotherapy. In these patients, 13 clips were placed stereotactically and 16 clips were placed using sonographic guidance.
