After Pakistan was hit with disastrous floods in 2022, health care needs and delivery were severely compromised. This prompted the Humanity Initiative, an organization of medical students from Karachi to conduct 15 medical camps, facilitating over 15 000 displaced individuals. The severity and extent of the natural disaster coupled with limited resources uncovered unique challenges.

This Letter presents a search for highly ionizing magnetic monopoles in 262  μb^{-1} of ultraperipheral Pb+Pb collision data at sqrt[s_{NN}]=5.36  TeV collected by the ATLAS detector at the LHC. A new methodology that exploits the properties of clusters of hits reconstructed in the innermost silicon detector layers is introduced to study highly ionizing particles in heavy-ion data.

We present the case of a young male in his mid-30s who developed baroliths, a rare complication, following a barium contrast study. The patient initially presented with abdominal pain, vomiting and constipation. Imaging revealed two large masses of retained contrast material within the sigmoid colon and rectum, consistent with baroliths.

Introduction: A subset of COVID-19 disease patients suffers a severe form of the illness; however, underlying early pathophysiological mechanisms associated with the severe form of COVID-19 disease remain to be fully understood. Several studies showed the association of COVID-19 disease severity with the changes in the expression profile of various matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs) and defensins (DA). However, the link between the changes in the expression of MMPs and DA in the nasopharyngeal milieu during early phases of infection and disease severity remains poorly understood.
