The aim of this study was to analyse results of the pilot screening round for Al-Qassim Screening Mammography Programme and compare with international standards. Analysis was conducted in the central screening office in Prince Faisal Oncology Centre, which coordinates activities of various screening units. Data were collected during the period 1 January 2007 to 30 June 2008.

Fourteen outpatients with mild-to-moderate essential hypertension were treated with perindopril (4-8 mg once daily) for a 16-week period. It was observed that the drug was effective in lowering blood pressure without inducing changes in blood lipids commonly observed with other hypotensive agents. This lipid neutrality, in addition to the lack of side or toxic effects, confers on perindopril a noteworthy therapeutic value in the treatment of essential hypertension.

Fifteen non-insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus hypertensive patients received nitrendipine (20-40 mg) for 24 weeks. Mean systolic and diastolic blood pressure decreased significantly from 177/102 mm Hg before treatment to 153/86 mm Hg (p less than 0.001) after treatment.

The use of a single-day protocol for 99mTc MIBI myocardial scintigraphy is particularly well-suited for the nuclear medicine departments that are the referral centres for the cardiology departments of several community hospitals. The aim of the study was to compare, in the same patient population, the diagnostic accuracy of planar and SPECT imaging with 99mTc MIBI using a single-day protocol. Thirty-nine patients (31 males and 8 females, age range 32-69 years) were studied because of effort chest pain.
