Structural characteristics and polymorphism of long (LNR) and short (SNR) mitochondrial non-coding regions of the liver fluke Fasciola hepatica were studied. The flukes were obtained from several populations of Russia and Belarus. The amplification of LNR yielded a set of 10 fragments with the length of neighbouring ones differing in one tandem repeat (85 bp; published earlier for Australian fluke).

DNA polymorphisms in two parasitic nematode species, Trichinella spiralis Oven, 1835, and Trichinella pseudospiralis Garkavi, 1972, were revealed via random amplification of polymorphic DNA by the polymerase chain reaction (RAPD PCR). The diagnostic value of seven 10-bp oligonucleotide primers was evaluated, and the extent of the homology between the genomes of the two species was estimated. The intraspecific variation of RAPD markers was revealed in larvae of both species isolated from experimentally infected white rats.

The intracellular peptidase of Brevibacterium E531, a lysine-producing bacterial species, was purified 6500-fold by chromatography on DEAE-cellulose and the affinity adsorbent H-Thr(But)-Phe-Pro-hexamethylene-diamine-Sepharose 4B and by gel filtration on Sephadex G-200. The enzyme displayed the maximum activity towards proline p-nitroanilide at pH 7.7-7.
