Managing conflicts of interest (COIs) in scientific decision-making is important for minimizing bias and fostering public trust in science. Proper management of COIs has added significance when scientists are making decisions that impact public policy, such as assessing substances for carcinogenicity. The International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) organizes expert working groups to identify putative carcinogens and determine whether or not the hazard is likely to present significant potential harm to humans.

Evaluation of the Food Literacy Project's "Nourishing Food Literacy, Community Health and Sense of Place in Louisville, Kentucky" Initiative.

Background And Objectives: Community-based organizations, such as Food Literacy Project, Inc. (FLP), focused on cultivating food justice through increasing access to healthy foods in under-resourced areas are uniquely positioned to positively affect the nutrition landscape. This article reports on an evaluation of FLP's efforts in implementing food justice programming.

The insecticide dichlorodiphenyltrichloroethane (DDT) and its persistent metabolite, dichlorodiphenyldichloroethylene (DDE), have been associated with increased adiposity and obesity in multiple generations of rodents and humans. These lipophilic pollutants accumulate in adipose tissue and appear to decrease energy expenditure through the impairment of thermogenesis in brown adipose tissue (BAT). We hypothesized that impaired thermogenesis is due to persistent epigenetic modifications of BAT.

Implementation of a Perioperative Lung Protective Ventilation Protocol for Robotic-Assisted Surgeries.

This project sought to educate providers on the benefits of lung protective ventilation (LPV), implement a LPV protocol in robotic surgery, and evaluate adherence to the protocol in the adult (≥ 18 years) robotic-assisted surgery population. This project used a pre/post quality improvement design with a retrospective chart review and periodic knowledge, attitude, and practice surveys over the course of 6 months. This project retrospectively reviewed electronic medical records to assess adherence to the LPV protocol.

Quality of Life Outcomes in Breast Cancer Patients Receiving Chemotherapy With or Without Radiation Therapy.

Purpose: Understanding quality of life (QOL) implications of individual components of breast cancer treatment is important as systemic therapies continue to improve oncologic outcomes. We hypothesized that adjuvant radiation therapy does not significantly impact QOL domains in breast cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy.

Methods: Data was drawn from three prospective studies in women with localized breast cancer being treated with chemotherapy from March 2014 to December 2019.
