Introduction: Infections caused by multidrug-resistant gram-negative bacilli (MDR-GNB) in critically ill patients present a challenge for timely and appropriate antibiotic treatment. This is particularly important in patients undergoing extracorporeal life-support techniques such as renal replacement therapy and extracorporeal membrane oxygenation. These techniques can introduce additional pharmacokinetic alterations, potentially leading to suboptimal exposure to antibiotics.

Sleep-related hypermotor epilepsy in a patient with mucopolysaccharidosis type III.

Both non-epileptic sleep disturbances and epilepsy are common in patients with mucopolysaccharidoses (MPS), so diagnosis of sleep-related hypermotor epilepsy in these patients is a tackling issue. We present a case of an adult patient with MPS IIIB (Sanfilippo syndrome), who presented with numerous nocturnal events of sudden awakening and hypermotor behavior, which had been previously regarded as parasomnias. Overnight video-EEG captured numerous stereotypical seizures with ictal pattern in the frontal regions, which led the diagnosis of SHE.

Validation of a screening test for alcohol use, the Russian Federation.

Objective: To validate a Russian-language version of the World Health Organization's Alcohol Use Disorders Identification Test (AUDIT).

Methods: We invited 2173 patients from 21 rural and urban primary health-care centres in nine Russian regions to participate in the study (143 declined and eight were excluded). In a standardized interview, patients who had consumed alcohol in the past 12 months provided information on their sociodemographic characteristics and completed the Russian AUDIT, the Kessler Psychological Distress Scale and the Composite International Diagnostic Interview to identify problem drinking and alcohol use disorders.

Inter-annual variation of mercury in aquatic bird eggs and fish from a large subarctic lake under a warming climate.

Understanding changes in environmental mercury concentrations is important for assessing the risk to human and wildlife populations from this potent toxicant. Here, we use herring gull (Larus argentatus) eggs to evaluate temporal changes in total mercury (THg) availability from two locations on Great Slave Lake (GSL), Northwest Territories, Canada. Egg THg concentrations increased through time, but this change was due to shifts in gull diets.

Bitemporal independent 3-Hz spike-and-waves in adult patient with idiopathic generalized epilepsy and Graves disease.

Objective: We present a case of idiopathic generalized epilepsy (IGE) with seizures manifesting in the context of Graves disease and unusual interictal EEG pattern of bilateral independent 3 Hz spike and wave activity.

Case Report: A 33-year old man with three generalized tonic-clonic seizures (GTCS) in history admitted for overnight video-EEG. At the age of 28, he had his first seizure soon after being diagnosed with Graves' disease.
