The future of radiosynoviorthesis: bright or bleak?

Radiosynoviorthesis (RSO) is a decades known, effective intra-articular nuclear medicine local therapy, with few rare side-effects, in which inflamed synovial membrane is treated by means of colloidal beta-emitters. There are major variations worldwide in terms of acceptance, frequency of use and approved indications for this procedure. Thus, reliable figures that reflect reality are only available for a few countries.

Do Positive Cultures at Second Stage Re-Implantation Increase the Risk for Reinfection in Two-Stage Exchange for Periprosthetic Joint Infection?

Background: Intraoperative cultures are important in the diagnosis and targeted treatment of periprosthetic joint infection (PJI). Positive cultures at reimplantation during a two-stage exchange are discussed as a risk factor for reinfection. The aim of this study is the investigation of the incidence and risk factors for positive cultures during reimplantation.

Impaired B-cell reconstitution in children after chemotherapy for standard or medium risk acute precursor B-lymphoblastic leukemia.

Chemotherapy for childhood acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) is a highly effective treatment, but at the same time causes significant suppression of the patient's immunity. Immune reconstitution was studied in a homogeneous cohort of 48 children with standard or medium risk ALL treated according to the ALL-Berlin-Frankfurt-Münster (BFM) protocol. Whereas the T-cell compartment was only moderately affected and recovered to normal levels quickly after treatment cessation, B-cells were significantly reduced during and after therapy.
