The obligate intracellular bacterial pathogen, (Ct), has a distinct DNA topoisomerase I (TopA) with a C-terminal domain (CTD) homologous to eukaryotic SWIB domains. Despite the lack of sequence similarity at the CTDs between TopA (CtTopA) and TopA (EcTopA), full-length CtTopA removed negative DNA supercoils and complemented the growth defect of an mutant. We demonstrated that CtTopA is less processive in DNA relaxation than EcTopA in dose-response and time course studies.

Perfluorohexane sulfonate (PFHxS) is a ubiquitous perfluoroalkyl substance known for its environmental persistence and potential toxicity. This study investigated PFHxS's impact on zebrafish embryos, focusing on sensorimotor behavior, circadian rhythm disruption, and underlying molecular mechanisms. Under 24 hr dark incubations, PFHxS exposure induced concentration-dependent hyperactivity within larval photomotor response, characterized by the distinctive "O-bend" response, strong light-phase hyperactive movement and seizure-like movements.

Purpose: Myopia is a complex disorder with etiology involving an interplay between several genetic and environmental factors. Interphotoreceptor retinoid-binding protein (IRBP) is found in the subretinal space and is crucial in the visual cycle. The interphotoreceptor retinoid-binding protein knockout mouse (IRBP KO) was established as a model system to understand myopia and retinal degeneration.

Type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM), often featuring hyperglycemia or insulin resistance, is a global health concern that is increasing in prevalence in the United States and worldwide. A common complication is metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD), the hepatic manifestation of metabolic syndrome that is also rapidly increasing in prevalence. The majority of patients with T2DM will experience MASLD, and likewise, individuals with MASLD are at an increased risk for developing T2DM.
