Diversity, community engagement and co-design in research: a rapid review.

There is increasing recognition in the field of health and social care research that community-engaged methods should include patients and the public throughout the research process. Therefore, individuals from all backgrounds should be involved in the research. We explored the public and patient engagement experience in research and how researchers and community groups can work together to make the research process more inclusive and sustainable.

Structural properties of optically clear bacterial cellulose produced by Komagataeibacter hansenii using arabitol.

Bacterial cellulose (BC) exhibits beneficial properties for use in biomedical applications but is limited by its lack of tunable transparency capabilities. To overcome this deficiency, a novel method to synthesize transparent BC materials using an alternative carbon source, namely arabitol, was developed. Characterization of the BC pellicles was performed for yield, transparency, surface morphology, and molecular assembly.

Household transmission of carbapenemase-producing Enterobacteriaceae: a prospective cohort study.

Objectives: To estimate the transmission rate of carbapenemase-producing Enterobacteriaceae (CPE) in households with recently hospitalized CPE carriers.

Methods: We conducted a prospective case-ascertained cohort study. We identified the presence of CPE in stool samples from index subjects, household contacts and companion animals and environmental samples at regular intervals.

Sequencing of E. coli strain UTI89 on multiple sequencing platforms.

Objectives: The availability of matched sequencing data for the same sample across different sequencing platforms is a necessity for validation and effective comparison of sequencing platforms. A commonly sequenced sample is the lab-adapted MG1655 strain of Escherichia coli; however, this strain is not fully representative of more complex and dynamic genomes of pathogenic E. coli strains.

Duration of Carbapenemase-Producing Enterobacteriaceae Carriage in Hospital Patients.

To determine the duration of carbapenemase-producing Enterobacteriaceae (CPE) carriage, we studied 21 CPE carriers for »1 year. Mean carriage duration was 86 days; probability of decolonization in 1 year was 98.5%, suggesting that CPE-carriers' status can be reviewed yearly.
