Preparedness for practice, competency and skill development and learning in rural and remote clinical placements: A scoping review of the perspective and experience of health students.

When considering health professionals' requirements and responsibilities, competence is a complex concept that extends beyond knowledge to encompass understanding, application, technical skills, problem-solving, and clinical judgment. Rural clinical placements provide a rich learning environment for students to improve their competencies, self-esteem, and preparedness for practice (PFP). This scoping review aimed to identify pre-registration health students' perspectives on rural placement regarding competency and skill development, and enablers and barriers to learning.

Objective: Referral to social and health services is a core process of the Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants and Children (WIC). We evaluate the feasibility and acceptability of a referral innovation implemented at two New York City WIC sites. This program aimed to improve retention by increasing WIC's perceived value by addressing unmet needs of WIC families.

Domestic violence against women has increased during the COVID-19 pandemic: A perspective paper about the need for change to current and future practice.

The COVID-19 outbreak led to widespread disruption and stress to people's lives. Concern about the escalation of domestic violence (DV) rates and related mental health issues soon emerged following the implementation of strategies aimed at curbing the spread of the virus. This perspective paper presents an overview of the issues, argues for greater recognition of the link between DV against women and serious emotional distress, and the need for greater awareness and knowledge about DV among mental health professionals.
