Purpose: Many patients with Crohn's disease (CD) and ulcerative colitis (UC) who have a high 6-methylmercaptopurine/6-thioguanine (6-MMP/6-TGN) ratio receive allopurinol 100 mg in addition to thiopurines to optimize metabolite concentrations. However, some patients do not tolerate allopurinol at this dosage. The aim of this study was to determine the intra-patient effect of reducing the allopurinol dosage from 100 to 50 mg, in terms of metabolite concentrations, enzyme activities, efficacy, and tolerability.

Here, we tested the hypothesis that GATA4 promotes a jejunal versus ileal identity in mouse intestine by directly activating and repressing specific subsets of absorptive enterocyte genes by modulating the acetylation of histone H3, lysine 27 (H3K27), a mark of active chromatin, at sites of GATA4 occupancy. Global analysis of mouse jejunal epithelium showed a statistically significant association of GATA4 occupancy with GATA4-regulated genes.

However, some believe that medieval Islamic physicians and in particular surgeons had been merely a medium for Greco-Roman ideas. Contrarily, in some medieval Islamic medical books, such as Al-Tasrif of Al-Zahrawi (936-1013), the surgical instructions represent a change in the usual techniques or are accompanied by a case history, implying that the procedure was actually undertaken.
