  • This study highlights the development of innovative burn wound dressings using Zeolitic Imidazolate Framework-8 (ZIF-8) in alginate-gelatin hydrogels to combat antibiotic resistance and improve healing.
  • The optimal dressing, containing 4% ZIF-8, showed a significant reduction in swelling and a marked increase in degradation rates, alongside a remarkable 99% antibacterial effectiveness against common pathogens like E. coli and S. aureus.
  • In vivo testing in Wistar rats indicated that the 4% ZIF-8 dressing resulted in over 89% wound closure and enhanced tissue regeneration, suggesting its potential as a next-generation solution for burn care.

Purpose: Regarding a wide variety of researches conducted with various therapeutic effect of crocin, the main constituent of saffron, the current study aims to assess the efficacy of crocin to improve learning and memory impairment caused by withdrawal following concurrent usage of ethanol (Eth) and nicotine (Nic) in adolescent male rats.

Methods: In order to test memory fucntion, Morris water maze and passive avoidance methods were applied in male Wistar rats undergone adolescent Nic-Eth withdrawal and the effect of crocin treatment was assessed at both behavioral and biochemical levels. The biochemical parameters included the inflammatory cytokines, indicators of oxidative stress and cholinergic metabolism within the hippocampla tissues.

Article Synopsis
  • Postoperative urinary dysfunction is a major issue for patients who have undergone rectal cancer surgery, and the effectiveness of pelvic floor muscle training (PFMT) in this context is still being evaluated.
  • A clinical trial with 79 patients demonstrated that starting Kegel exercises shortly after surgery resulted in notable improvements in urinary symptoms compared to standard care, with adherence linked to better outcomes and no adverse effects reported.
  • The study suggests that early Kegel exercises may help improve urinary function post-surgery, calling for further research to refine patient care approaches.

Accurate quantification of lung density, in Hounsfield Units (HU), is of high importance to monitor progression of diseases such as emphysema using chest CT imaging. Reproducibility of HU quantification on independent photon counting detector CT (PCD-CT) systems with a focus on lung imaging have not yet been evaluated. We thus aimed to evaluate HU reproducibility on 2 independent PCD-CT systems using a repeatable phantom setup with identical acquisition and image reconstruction settings.
