Sympathetic Cooling and Slowing of Molecules with Rydberg Atoms.

We propose to sympathetically slow and cool polar molecules in a cold, low-density beam using laser-cooled Rydberg atoms. The elastic collision cross sections between molecules and Rydberg atoms are large enough to efficiently thermalize the molecules even in a low-density environment. Molecules traveling at 100  m/s can be stopped in under 30 collisions with little inelastic loss.

Multimodal imaging distribution assessment of a liposomal antibiotic in an infectious disease model.

Liposomes are promising targeted drug delivery systems with the potential to improve the efficacy and safety profile of certain classes of drugs. Though attractive, there are unique analytical challenges associated with the development of liposomal drugs including human dose prediction given these are multi-component drug delivery systems. In this study, we developed a multimodal imaging approach to provide a comprehensive distribution assessment for an antibacterial drug, GSK2485680, delivered as a liposomal formulation (Lipo680) in a mouse thigh model of bacterial infection to support human dose prediction.

Vaccine development efforts against have failed so far however, the findings from these human clinical and non-clinical studies provide potential insight for such failures.

Efficacy of Human Exposures of Gepotidacin (GSK2140944) against in a Rat Pyelonephritis Model.

Gepotidacin is a first-in-class triazaacenaphthylene antibacterial that inhibits bacterial type II topoisomerases and has activity against a range of bacterial pathogens, including Urinary tract infections often progress to pyelonephritis and are a worldwide problem due to the prevalence of multidrug-resistant strains. This study evaluated the efficacy of gepotidacin against four strains of multidrug-resistant in a rat pyelonephritis model. Infected rats received controlled intravenous infusions of gepotidacin every 12 h for 4 days that recreated human systemic exposures from oral gepotidacin (800 or 1,500 mg twice daily for 4 days).

Effective Three-Body Interactions in Cs(6s)-Cs(nd) Rydberg Trimers.

Ultralong-range Rydberg trimer molecules are spectroscopically observed in an ultracold gas of Cs(nd_{3/2}) atoms. The anisotropy of the atomic Rydberg state allows for the formation of angular trimers, whose energies may not be obtained from integer multiples of dimer energies. These nonadditive trimers coexist with Rydberg dimers.
