Purpose: To determine patient-reported clinical status in a cohort of patients operated on during adolescence for adolescent idiopathic scoliosis (AIS) using Cotrel-Dubousset instrumentation after a minimum follow-up (FU) of 25 years.

Methods: Multicentric cross-sectional observational study. We assessed the clinical status of patients using the lumbar-pain numeric rating scale (NRS), ODI, SRS-22r, SF-36, and EQ-5D-5L.

Pituitary stalk interruption syndrome (PSIS) is a congenital anatomical defect that leads to pituitary insufficiency, The symptoms are diverse, often leading to diagnostic delays or even misdiagnosis. MRI plays a crucial role in establishing an accurate diagnosis by revealing a characteristic radiological triad: a thin or absent pituitary stalk, an ectopic or missing posterior pituitary gland, and anterior pituitary hypoplasia. We herein describe 2 cases: 1 involving a 9-year-old boy and the other an 11-year-old girl, both diagnosed with PSIS.

Article Synopsis
  • αδ proteins play a crucial role in regulating calcium channels and synaptic functions, with missense variants in their genes linked to autism spectrum disorder (ASD), although their pathogenic effects remain unclear.
  • Functional characterization of two specific mutations (p.R351T in αδ-1 and p.A275T in αδ-3) showed reduced membrane expression and synaptic localization but did not significantly affect the biophysical properties of calcium channels.
  • The findings suggest that the pathogenic mechanisms related to these mutations may not be tied to traditional channel functions or trans-synaptic signaling, indicating a complex role for αδ proteins in ASD.

Article Synopsis
  • In recyclable waste management facilities, bioaerosols and microorganisms may be released, posing health risks, with a focus on microbial volatile organic compounds (mVOCs) as potential mold exposure biomarkers.
  • A study compared mVOC concentrations between a recyclable waste sorting plant (WSP) and a university campus (UC), finding 13 mVOCs at WSP versus only 3 at UC, emphasizing the higher levels of contamination at WSP.
  • The research optimized mVOC sampling methods, revealing distinct profiles of mVOCs in contaminated versus non-contaminated environments and identifying specific mVOCs that serve well as biomarkers for mold exposure.

Neutrophilic urticarial dermatosis (NUD) is an uncommon and not well understood disease. We report a 24-year-old female with persistent present with pruritic and painful urticarial plaques unresponsive to convential treatment. Histopathologically, it demonstrates a perivascular and interstitial neutrophilic infiltrate with leukocytoclasia without evidence of vasculitis or dermal edema consistent with neutrophilic urticarial dermatosis.
