A source of tunable coherent radiation based on the use of Ti(3+):Al(2)O(3) crystals pumped by Cu-vapor laser radiation is studied experimentally. This source is promising for applications to atmospheric sensing as well as for use in applied optics and spectroscopy studies. Energy, kinetic, spectral, and spatial characteristics of lasing in nonselective and selective cavities and in the master oscillator power amplifier system are measured.

The angular acceptance and damage threshold of the LiB(3)O(5) crystal are measured and calculated, and a 30% conversion efficiency is achieved (with a 5-mm-long crystal). The potential for increasing the conversion efficiency of second-harmonic generation at the edges of the spectral range of the Ti:sapphire laser is shown.

Based on data obtained from spectrophotometry, as well as sedimentation and diffusion analyses, it is shown that in the presence of excess protein in the reaction medium, formation of the main chain takes place via the copolymer associated with several protein globules. Under conditions of excess modifier copolymer, either single-site and/or multiple-site bonding is possible for the protein backbone, depending on the molecular weight of the copolymer.

It has been shown that the values of diffusion coefficients obtained by the method are almost the same as those obtained by quasielastic light scattering. However this method is more available since it is less sensitive to aggregation and requires less amount of protein for investigation.
