Incidence of postpartum depression among women with postpartum haemorrhage in Kano, northern Nigeria.

The burden of postpartum depression (PPD), an important but largely neglected cause of maternal morbidity, is often increased by the presence of common co-morbidities, such as postpartum haemorrhage (PPH). Additionally, stress and the absence of social support can amplify PPD risk. Understanding the relationship between these conditions will help identify at-risk women and allow prompt intervention.

Background And Aims: Fully covered self-expandable metal stents (FCSEMSs) are widely used in benign upper gastrointestinal (GI) conditions, but stent migration remains a limitation. An over-the-scope clip (OTSC) device (Stentfix {SF], Ovesco Endoscopy) for stent anchoring has recently been developed. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of OTSC fixation on FCSEMS migration rate.

Purpose Of Review: Allergic conjunctivitis is characterized by the development of pathophysiological changes to the ocular surface, which occurs when pro-allergic and pro-inflammatory mediators interact with their cognate receptors expressed on immune and nonimmune cells. Traditional treatments with antihistamines and corticosteroids provide relief, but there is a need for more efficacious and tolerable long-term therapy with a better safety profile. This article aims to provide an overview of the mode of action and clinical application of agonist therapies targeting glucocorticoid, melanocortin, and toll-like receptors, as well as antagonist therapies targeting cytokine, chemokine, integrin, and histamine receptors.

Background: Maternal infections remain a significant contributor to maternal mortality worldwide. Majority of births in northern Nigeria occur at home and are attended by Traditional Birth Attendants (TBAs). Little has been documented about their knowledge and practice on infection prevention and control practices in Kano, northern Nigeria.

The clinical manifestations of this condition exhibit variability contingent upon environmental factors, seasonal dynamics, and genetic predisposition. While our comprehension of the pathophysiological engagement of immune and nonimmune cells in the conjunctiva has progressed, the same cannot be asserted for the cytokines mediating this inflammatory cascade.
