Background: High tibial osteotomy (HTO) is a surgical procedure for treating certain knee conditions. Proper execution of HTO can preserve joint function and delay or avoid the need for total knee replacement. This study compared different 3D printing techniques (fused deposition modeling, selective laser sintering, and direct metal laser sintering) and a navigation system for their suitability in assisting HTO surgeries.

Increasing evidence shows extracellular vesicles (EVs) are primarily responsible for the beneficial effects of cell-based therapies. EVs derived from mesenchymal stromal cells (MSCs) show promise as a source of EVs for cell-free therapies. The human placental fetal-maternal interface is a rich and abundant source of MSCs from which EVs can be isolated.

Article Synopsis
  • - Tenosynovitis with psammomatous calcifications (TPC) is a rare, non-cancerous condition that often affects women and is thought to result from repetitive use or trauma, commonly appearing at sites like the hands, feet, and wrists.
  • - In a study involving 18 new cases, most patients presented with painful masses, and imaging often showed benign characteristics, but many of these cases were misdiagnosed as more serious conditions like gout or tumors.
  • - Follow-up on patients (mostly for around 30 months) showed no local recurrences after surgical removal, highlighting the necessity for greater awareness among medical professionals regarding TPC.

Article Synopsis
  • The study followed patients with early-stage follicular lymphoma (ESFL) who were treated with involved field radiotherapy (IFRT) alone or combined with chemotherapy (cyclophosphamide/vincristine/prednisolone) and later added rituximab to the treatment, analyzing its effects over an 11.3-year period.* -
  • Results showed that those receiving IFRT plus rituximab (IFRT + R-CVP) had significantly better progression-free survival rates (62% vs. 43%) compared to IFRT alone, even though overall survival rates didn’t differ significantly.* -
  • Additionally, higher expression of the CD8A gene in biopsy samples was associated with improved outcomes, suggesting that immune

Article Synopsis
  • Cystic fibrosis (CF) is characterized by heightened neutrophil presence in the airways and inefficient apoptosis, prompting the investigation of whether NETosis (a form of neutrophil clearance) plays a significant role in CF lung disease.
  • In a study involving 45 CF and 15 healthy participants, researchers found higher neutrophil counts and abnormal morphology in CF sputum, alongside elevated levels of inflammatory mediators and NETs, indicating a strong link between NETs and airway inflammation.
  • Treatment with DNase reduced sputum NET levels and mitigated the pro-inflammatory effects of NETs in co-culture experiments, highlighting its potential as an anti-inflammatory therapy in CF management.
