Demonstration of the role of an implantable bioscaffold in airway reconstruction: a pilot study utilizing an animal model.

Introduction: Laryngotracheal reconstruction is a common procedure to repair subglottic stenosis. Despite a success rate upwards of 85%, this procedure has significant morbidity associated with it, specifically with the site of the graft harvest and recurrence of stenosis. We propose that a recently described cellular bioscaffold xenograft may be useful in reducing these complications.

Improving the quality of decision making in breast cancer: consultation planning template and consultation recording template.

Purpose/objectives: To describe two templates that can be used to improve the quality of breast cancer treatment decisions.

Data Sources: Case study, survey of current users, three clinical trials.

Findings: Clinical applications of the Consultation Planning Template and Consultation Recording Template vary across organizations.

Prostate cancer screening with prostate specific antigen in spinal cord injured men.

Purpose: As the spinal cord injured population ages, prostate cancer becomes a more significant cause of potential mortality. Consequently due to various bladder management techniques the validity of standard prostate specific antigen (PSA) screening values in this population must be evaluated. We compared screening PSA values in a large population of spinal cord injured patients with those in age matched, nonspinal cord injured men.

The "bends" and neurogenic bladder dysfunction.

Decompression sickness (the "bends") is a well-known risk of scuba diving. The pathophysiology and treatment is well documented. In the urologic data, no reference to the development of a neurogenic bladder as a result of an episode of the bends was found.

Urodynamic pattern changes in multiple sclerosis.

Objectives: Multiple sclerosis (MS) causes neurologic symptoms to change over time. Voiding dysfunction is common in patients with MS, and few studies have examined the changes in urodynamic patterns in these patients over time. The purpose of this study was to examine the frequency and nature of urodynamic pattern changes in patients with MS who underwent two or more urodynamic studies.
