The Chiloe wigeon, Mareca sibilatrix (Anseriformes: Anatidae), is a native duck distributed mainly in Chile and Argentina. Although it is a common species in the Neotropical realm, studies on its parasitic fauna remain limited. This study aimed to gather additional data on host-parasite associations in M.

Article Synopsis
  • Burn depth determination is essential for effective patient care, but current methods lack precision; however, recent animal studies revealed that Short Wave Infrared (SWIR) imaging can effectively differentiate between superficial and deep burns.
  • A study involving 11 patients utilized a SWIR assessment tool (SWAT) to compare reflectance of multiple SWIR bands with surgeons' classifications and histology results to evaluate burn depths.
  • The findings indicate that while reflectance changes at certain wavelengths correlate with burn depth, multi-spectral imaging through SWAT may offer improved accuracy in assessing burn wound severity.

A proof-of-principle experiment of highly efficient (38%) second harmonic generation was implemented at a ∼1 / intensity of a 45 fs pulse in a composite nonlinear sample-a 1 mm KDP crystal glued onto a 1 mm fused silica substrate. The attenuated replica of the second harmonic pulse (455 nm) was compressed down to 28.6 fs by means of dispersive mirrors, with a significant reduction in both the wings and the far temporal contrast.

Article Synopsis
  • * After 6 weeks, all DMSO concentrations reduced myelin content, while 0.1% DMSO for 4 weeks and 1% DMSO for 6 weeks significantly improved motor coordination as shown in the rotarod test (p<0.05 and p<0.001, respectively).
  • * The study also found mixed effects on pain sensitivity, where lower concentrations of D

Blue phase (BP) liquid crystals (LC) have lately become the focus of extensive research due to their peculiar properties and structure. BPs exhibit a highly organized 3D structure with a lattice period in the hundreds of nm. Owing to such structure, BPs are regarded as 3D photonic crystals.
