Exploring code portability solutions for HEP with a particle tracking test code.

Traditionally, high energy physics (HEP) experiments have relied on x86 CPUs for the majority of their significant computing needs. As the field looks ahead to the next generation of experiments such as DUNE and the High-Luminosity LHC, the computing demands are expected to increase dramatically. To cope with this increase, it will be necessary to take advantage of all available computing resources, including GPUs from different vendors.

Surgical Intraoperative Handoff Initiative: Standardizing Operating Room Communication Using SHRIMPS.

Background: Operating room (OR) handoffs are not universally standardized, although standardized sign outs have been proven to provide effective communication in other aspects of healthcare. We hypothesize that creating a standardized handoff will improve communication between OR staff.

Study Design: A frontline stakeholder approached our quality improvement team with concern regarding inadequate quality surgical technician handoffs during staff changes.

Standardization and Visualization of the Surgical Time-Out.

Introduction: The time-out (TO) can prevent adverse events but is subject to TO engagement. We hypothesize transforming the TO to an auditable, active process will improve compliance and engagement.

Methods: The passive nature of the current TO was identified as a potential safety issue on staff patient safety culture surveys.

Development of a Pediatric Behavioral Early Warning Scale (Pedi-BEWS) for Children.

The prevention of aggressive behavior in child and adolescent inpatient settings is essential. However, it can be difficult to prompt a quick appropriate intervention without an early warning scale for the prevention and management of behavioral emergencies in a psychiatric inpatient adolescent unit. Behavioral emergencies often result in restraint/seclusion and/or administration of psychotropic medications.
