Liver transplantation in glycogen storage disease type III: A case-series.

Glycogen storage disease type III (GSD III) is a rare metabolic disorder characterized by a deficiency of liver and muscle amylo-1,6-glucosidase. This condition presents with severe hepatic symptoms in childhood, mostly hepatomegaly, hypoglycemia in half of patients, while muscular complications may predominate in adulthood. Hepatic fibrosis, cirrhosis and hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) are common complications in older patients.

Community-Based Participatory Research to Address the Disproportionate Burden of Breast Cancer in Black Women.

Objective: Black/African American women with breast cancer have disproportionately higher mortality rates and report experiencing a lower quality of life during survivorship compared to non-Hispanic white women. Despite support for the integration of peer navigation in cancer care and survivorship to address these inequities, Black/African American women often have limited access to culturally tailored peer navigation programs. We aimed to investigate the unique needs and strengths of Black/African American women with breast cancer and survivors to inform the development of a culturally tailored peer navigation program for Black/African American women.

Comparison of Vendor-Pretrained and Custom-Trained Deep Learning Segmentation Models for Head-and-Neck, Breast, and Prostate Cancers.

Background/objectives: We assessed the influence of local patients and clinical characteristics on the performance of commercial deep learning (DL) segmentation models for head-and-neck (HN), breast, and prostate cancers.

Methods: Clinical computed tomography (CT) scans and clinically approved contours of 210 patients (53 HN, 49 left breast, 55 right breast, and 53 prostate cancer) were used to train and validate segmentation models integrated within a vendor-supplied DL training toolkit and to assess the performance of both vendor-pretrained and custom-trained models. Four custom models (HN, left breast, right breast, and prostate) were trained and validated with 30 (training)/5 (validation) HN, 34/5 left breast, 39/5 right breast, and 30/5 prostate patients to auto-segment a total of 24 organs at risk (OARs).

Meaningful Patient Participation in Health Care Education: A Theoretically Informed Study Exploring Boundaries and Identities.

Purpose: After recent policy and practice changes, health care schools are expected to involve patients as partners in the management, design, and delivery of professional curricula. However, what these partnerships mean for academic communities and the processes needed to support them are not yet understood. This study examines what involving patients as partners within an academic community means for key stakeholders.

Primary hyperparathyroidism in patients with thyroid cancer: prevalence and prognosis in a retrospective monocentric study.

Purpose: Primary hyperparathyroidism (PHPT) is associated with long-term implications on many aspects of general health and has been linked to various tumor types. This retrospective monocentric study aimed to evaluate the prevalence of primary hyperparathyroidism in a cohort of thyroid cancer patients and its impact on their general prognosis.

Methods: The prevalence of primary hyperparathyroidism (concomitant or subsequent) was retrospectively evaluated in a cohort of 450 patients with a diagnosis of differentiated thyroid cancer.
