Reconstruction of functional human lips utilizing a prelaminated flap.

Lips form a structure that are difficult to reconstruct after a traumatic avulsion injury or cancer ablative surgery secondary to loss of volumetric muscle mass. Traditional tissue engineering approaches of fabrication of mature tissue constructs can supply an alternative to the current surgical standard of care for functional lip reconstruction. We demonstrate a hybrid approach that combines the advantages of muscle flap prefabrication with fabrication of an autogenous mucocutaneous construct as the laminate for prelamination to form a designer microvascular muscle free flap for lip reconstruction.

Addition of temsirolimus to chemotherapy in children, adolescents, and young adults with intermediate-risk rhabdomyosarcoma (ARST1431): a randomised, open-label, phase 3 trial from the Children's Oncology Group.

Background: The Children's Oncology Group defines intermediate-risk rhabdomyosarcoma as unresected FOXO1 fusion-negative disease arising at an unfavourable site or non-metastatic FOXO1 fusion-positive disease. Temsirolimus in combination with chemotherapy has shown promising activity in patients with relapsed or refractory rhabdomyosarcoma. We aimed to compare event-free survival in patients with intermediate-risk rhabdomyosarcoma treated with vincristine, actinomycin, and cyclophosphamide alternating with vincristine and irinotecan (VAC/VI) combined with temsirolimus followed by maintenance therapy versus VAC/VI alone with maintenance therapy.

A Prospective Observational Cohort Study of Language Preference and Preoperative Cognitive Screening in Older Adults: Do Language Disparities Exist in Cognitive Screening and Does the Association Between Test Results and Postoperative Delirium Differ Based on Language Preference?

Background: A greater percentage of surgical procedures are being performed each year on patients 65 years of age or older. Concurrently, a growing proportion of patients in English-speaking countries such as the United States, United Kingdom, Australia, and Canada have a language other than English (LOE) preference. We aimed to measure whether patients with LOE underwent cognitive screening at the same rates as their English-speaking counterparts when routine screening was instituted.
