Pneumoperitoneum after placement of the temporary pacing wires: transverse colon injury at the base of a diverticulum.

We present the successful management of a patient presenting with pneumo-peritoneum early after surgery due to transvere colon injury after placement of the temporary pacing wires. The patient was asymptomatic, underwent computed tomography, the temporary pacing wires were removed and he was managed conservatively.

Total Artificial Heart Implantation as a Bridge to Transplantation in Slovakia.

Although left ventricular assist device implantation represents the majority of durable mechanical circulatory support implants for patients with advanced heart failure, as many as 20 to 30% will subsequently have right heart failure requiring extended inotropic support or short-term mechanical circulatory support, and the total artificial heart is an established tool in the bridge to transplant armamentarium. The aim of this short report is to present our center's experience with the use of SynCardia total artificial heart. Between November 2017 and April 2021, 10 SynCardia total artificial heart devices were implanted.

Pre-Operative Mechanical Bowel Preparation Does Not Affect the Impact of Anastomosis Leakage in Left-Side Colorectal Surgery-A Single Center Observational Study.

Despite rapid advances in colorectal surgery, morbidity and mortality rates in elective gastrointestinal surgery play a significant role. For decades, there have been tempestuous discussions on preventative measures to minimize the risk of anastomotic dehiscence. When mechanical bowel preparation before an elective procedure, one of the key hypotheses, was introduced into practice, it was assumed that it would decrease the number of infectious complications and anastomotic dehiscence.

The importance of sentinel lymph node intraoperative frozen analysis for indication of lateral neck dissection in patients with medullary thyroid cancer.

Our research seeks to evaluate the utility of intraoperative frozen analysis of sentinel lymph nodes (SLNs) in the lateral cervical compartment (LCC) as a tool to inform decision-making regarding therapeutic neck dissection in patients with medullary thyroid carcinoma (MTC). This is particularly relevant due to the variability observed in guidelines regarding the indication for lateral neck dissection in this patient population. The study comprised 64 patients (25 males, 39 females) aged between 29 and 81 years, with a median age of 59, who underwent surgery for MTC at stage T1-3N0-1M0 between January 1, 2012, and December 31, 2020.

Thromboembolic complications following implantation of durable left-ventricular assist devices.

Introduction: As the utilization of left-ventricular assist devices (LVADs) continues to rise and patients experience extended survival duration with these devices, the overall incidence of adverse events and complications has shown a notable increase. Among the major adverse events, thromboembolic complications are particularly significant. The aim of this study is to present our experience and assess the risk of thromboembolic complications after implantation of durable continuous-flow left-ventricular assist devices (CF-LVAD) in patients with end-stage heart failure.
