Weaning children from prolonged enteral nutrition: A position paper.

Enteral nutrition (EN) allows adequate nutritional intake in children for whom oral intake is impossible, insufficient or unsafe. With maturation and health improvements, most children ameliorate oral skills and become able to eat orally, therefore weaning from EN becomes a therapeutic goal. No recommendations currently exist on tube weaning, and practices vary widely between centres.

[Early restrictive feeding disorders: Quantitative assessment of parent/infant feeding interactions].

Introduction: Interest in the study of early feeding disorders (FD) has steadily increased during recent decades. During this period, research described the importance of the transactional relationships and the complex interplay between caregiver and child over time. On the basis of the previous studies, our study tried to explore the associations between the characteristics of the parents and the temperamental characteristics of the infants with early FD.

[Feeding disorders in infants and toddlers: At-risk situations and predisposing factors].

Feeding disorders and food refusal can be found in 25% of infants, with a minority of them having an organic explanation. Failure to thrive and/or severe malnutrition are found in 3-5% of infants in this population. The objective of this study was to analyze the risk factors of feeding disorders in infants and children less than 3 years of age.

Successful clinical treatment of child stroke using mechanical embolectomy.

Background: Stroke in childhood is less common than stroke in adults, but recent study estimate incidences up to 13/100,000. Mortality is decreasing but morbidity remains very high, with variable effects for two thirds of patients. Recent guidelines for optimal treatment in childhood stroke recommend advise against the use of thrombolysis, except for specific research protocols.

[Asymptomatic neonatal neurocutaneous melanosis].

Giant congenital nevi in 1% of cases are associated with anomalies of the central nervous system, which are characteristic of neurocutaneous melanosis. When neurocutaneous melanosis becomes symptomatic, it is associated with a poor prognosis. With recommended neonatal screening, asymptomatic neonatal cases are being discovered more frequently.
