[Advances and challenges in the transsexualizing process in the Brazilian Unified Health System].

The implementation of the Transsexualizing Process (TP) / Gender-affirming Surgeries (GAS) in the Unified Health System (SUS) was the result of social struggles by the LGBT community for sexual rights, the construction of gender identity, and bodily autonomy. The scope of this article is to analyze the advances and challenges of TP/GAS in the SUS, through a qualitative narrative literature review. In June 2022, searches were conducted in the Google Scholar, SciELO, and VHL databases to select scientific articles in Portuguese published in the last 10 years, excluding articles in foreign languages and other types of academic work such as reviews, undergraduate theses, dissertations, and/or graduate theses.

Adaptation to drought is one of the most important challenges for agriculture. The root system, and its integration with the soil, is fundamental in conferring drought tolerance. At the same time, it is extremely challenging to study.

Cerebral Protection in Pediatric Cardiac Surgery.

Cardiac surgery, both adult and pediatric, has developed very rapidly and impressively over the past 7 decades. Pediatric cardiac surgery, in particular, has revolutionized the management of babies born with congenital heart disease such that now most patients reach adult life and lead comfortable lives. However, these patients are at risk of cerebral lesions, which may be due to perioperative factors, such as side effects of cardiopulmonary bypass and/or anesthesia, and non-perioperative factors such as chromosomal anomalies (common in children with congenital heart disease), the timing of surgery, number of days on the intensive care unit, length of hospitalization and other hospitalizations in the first year of life.

Use of ultrasound for vascular access during cardiac catheterisation in children with congenital heart disease: a Swiss multicentre cohort study.

Aim Of The Study: Our study aimed to assess the first-attempt success rate of ultrasound (US) and anatomical landmark (ALM) guidance for vascular cannulation in children with congenital heart disease in Switzerland.

Methods: A prospective observational multicentre study was conducted from January 2022 to January 2023 in three university hospitals in Switzerland. We included patients with congenital heart disease aged 0 to 18 years who were scheduled for elective cardiac catheterisation.

Quantitative and functional changes in platelets and fibrinogen following cardiopulmonary by-pass in children.

Introduction: Cardiopulmonary bypass (CPB) causes coagulopathy, increasing the risk of postoperative bleeding and mortality. The underlying causes of post-CPB coagulopathy and the factors associated with its occurrence are not yet fully understood. This study assesses platelet and fibrinogen concentration and function following CPB in children with congenital heart diseases (CHD).
