The skin undergoes the formation of fine lines and wrinkles through the aging process; also, burns, trauma, and other similar circumstances give rise to various forms of skin ulcers. Induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs) have become promising candidates for skin healing and rejuvenation due to not stimulating inflammatory responses, low probability of immune rejection, high metabolic activity, good large-scale production capacity and potentials for personalized medicine. iPSCs can secrete microvesicles (MVs) containing RNA and proteins responsible for the normal repairing process of the skin.

The important challenge about cancer is diagnosis in primary stages and proper treatment. Although classical clinico-pathological features of the tumor have major prognostic value, the advances in diagnosis and treatment are indebted to discovery of molecular biomarkers and control of cancer in the pre-invasive state. Moreover, the efficiency of available therapeutic options is highly diminished, and chemotherapy is still the main treatment due to lack of enough specific targets.

Galactose-targeted delivery of macromolecules and drug conjugates to asialoglycoprotein receptor (ASGPR) positive cells has been widely documented in animals, although targeting in humans has never been demonstrated. In this study we report the pharmacokinetics and imaging determined in the first patient enrolled in a phase I clinical study of the poly[N-(2-hydroxypropyl)methacrylamide] copolymer bearing doxorubicin and galactosamine, known as PK2. Gradient high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) evaluation of plasma and urine has been combined with 123I-based imaging to show biphasic clearance of the drug from the plasma (half-lives of 78+/-1 and 990+/-15), and approximately 30% delivery of the drug to the hepatic region, as determined by planar whole body imaging at 24 h.

Evaluation of 50 cases of microtropia that were collected within two years indicates the primary form of microtropia to be more common than the secondary form (48:2 cases). Various degrees of anisometropia were present in all cases of primary microtropia, suggesting that anisometropia is the cause rather than the consequence of microtropia.
