Predictive model of neurodevelopmental outcome in neonatal hypoxic ischemic encephalopathy.

Objectives: To build an early, prognostic model for adverse outcome in infants with hypoxic ischemic encephalopathy (HIE) receiving therapeutic hypothermia (TH) based on brain magnetic resonance images (MRI), electrophysiological tests and clinical assessments were performed during the first 5 days of life.

Methods: Retrospective study of 182 neonates with HIE and managed with TH. The predominant pattern of HIE brain injury on MRI performed following cooling was scored by neuroradiologists.

Methods: This is a cross-sectional study conducted at the Neurology Department, Kuala Lumpur Hospital from January 2018 to January 2021.

Invasive meningococcal disease in Malaysia, Philippines, Thailand, and Vietnam: An Asia-Pacific expert group perspective on current epidemiology and vaccination policies.

Invasive meningococcal disease (IMD) imposes a significant burden on the global community due to its high case fatality rate (4-20%) and the risk of long-term sequelae for one in five survivors. An expert group meeting was held to discuss the epidemiology of IMD and immunization policies in Malaysia, Philippines, Thailand, and Vietnam. Most of these countries do not include meningococcal immunization in their routine vaccination programs, except for high-risk groups such as immunocompromised people and pilgrims.

Infantile intracardiac thrombus in severe encephalo-myocarditis.

Myocarditis is an uncommon disease in childhood and has a wide range of clinical presentations, from subtle to devastating and thus requires a high index of suspicion. Intracardiac thrombus formation following myocarditis is rare and thus its management remains challenging and not well defined. We report a child whom presented with a viral prodrome, rapidly deteriorated into multi organ failure and developed fulminant viral myocarditis with encephalitis that was complicated with an intracardiac thrombus formation.
