Microorganisms are known to secrete copious amounts of extracellular polymeric substances (EPS) that form complex matrices around the cells to shield them against external stresses, to maintain structural integrity and to influence their environment. Many microorganisms also secrete enzymes that are capable of remodelling or degrading EPS in response to various environmental cues. We aim to investigate prospective associations of infant gut microbiota diversity and composition with childhood BP, examining effect measure modification by breastfeeding and mediation by a child's body mass index.
Methods And Results: In the Copenhagen Prospective Studies on Asthma in Childhood 2010 cohort, we measured infant gut microbiota (16S rRNA V4) at 1 week, 1 month, and 1 year and child BP at 3 and 6 years.
Background: Solid organ transplant (SOT) recipients are at risk of severe COVID-19. Vaccination is an important preventive measure but may have side effects, including decreased leukocyte counts. Methods: Using European Renal Association (ERA) Registry data, we investigated European patients who started KRT below 20 years of age between 1978 and 2019. Access and determinants to first, second and third KT were assessed using multivariable Cox regression.
Chronic wounds are increasing in numbers and biofilm-producing bacteria are highly prevalent in these wounds and often create resilient polymicrobial infections. Moreover, estimates suggest that up to 23 % of wounds contain fungi, particularly . Currently, inter-kingdom chronic wound models are scarce; thus, this study presents one of the few models that incorporate both bacterial and fungal species in a wound-relevant environment, addressing a critical gap in current biofilm research.
