Species distribution models (SDMs) are widely used to project how species distributions may vary over time, particularly in response climate change. Although the fit of such models to current distributions is regularly enumerated, SDMs are rarely tested across longer time spans to gauge their actual performance under environmental change. Here, we utilise paleozoological presence/absence records to independently assess the predictive accuracy of SDMs through time.

The availability of stability data for the use of continuous intravenous flucloxacillin in an elastomeric device has enabled the treatment of serious Methicillin Sensitive (MSSA) in the outpatient parenteral antimicrobial therapy (OPAT) setting. This service review aimed to evaluate current standard of care to establish the clinical effectiveness and complication rates associated with its use since its introduction at our institution. A retrospective review of clinical outcomes and adverse events/complications, was undertaken for all patients who received continuous infusion flucloxacillin for complicated MSSA infection between January 2019 and July 2022 via our OPAT service.

Background: The coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic has led to a disruptive increase in the number of intensive care unit (ICU) admissions with acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS). ARDS is a severe, life-threatening medical condition characterized by widespread inflammation and vascular leak in the lungs. Although there is no proven therapy to reduce pulmonary vascular leak in ARDS, recent studies demonstrated that the tyrosine kinase inhibitor imatinib reinforces the endothelial barrier and prevents vascular leak in inflammatory conditions, while leaving the immune response intact.
