A possibility of testing oxolynic acid (OA) transport in blood of animals by its bactericidal effect was studied experimentally on macaques and non-pedigree dogs (intramuscular and peroral administration). Kinetics of accumulation and elimination of OA and its derivatives exhibiting bactericidal effect makes it possible to predict optimum scheme of using these drugs in prevention and treatment of radiation disease.

The damaging effect of high-energy helium ions (4 GeV), protons (9 GeV), and standard radiation was different as studied on Chinese hamster cell cultures (clone 431). A possibility of increasing the survival of cells by the pre- and post-irradiation treatment with a mesoporphyrin-IX derivative was demonstrated. It is suggested that the radioprotective effect of the modifier is associated with the decreased level of aberrant mitoses.

In experiments on SOC cells, using the methods of mathematical scheduling of experiment and the computer analysis of the results obtained it was shown that the radioprotective agents, superoxide dismutase and 2,4 di-(alpha-methoxyethyl)deuteroporphyrine-IX, applied in a combination, produced an independent and additive effect on survival of irradiated cells.
