Introduction: Previous studies suggested that type O blood may be associated with increased mortality and/or thrombotic complications among trauma patients. The purpose of this analysis was to evaluate the relationship between endogenous blood type, mortality, and complications among patients receiving massive transfusions, using data from the Pragmatic Randomized Optimal Platelet and Plasma Ratios trial.

Materials And Methods: This was a secondary analysis of the Pragmatic Randomized Optimal Platelet and Plasma Ratios trial that included patients with the reported blood type (A, AB, B, or O) data.

Analysis of time to regulatory approval in an exception from informed consent trial in trauma patients.

Background: The interactive media-based approach to community consultation and public disclosure (CC/PD), a key step when conducting exception from informed consent (EFIC) clinical trials, is intended to be completed in 4 months. This analysis characterizes the process, from initiation of CC/PD activities to institutional review board approval, to better understand the barriers and how these can be mitigated.

Methods: This is a retrospective post hoc analysis of data collected as part of the CC/PD campaigns conducted for a large trial involving up to 90 trauma centers in the United States.

Hypertension and obesity independently drive hypertrophy and alter mitochondrial metabolism in a mouse model of heart failure with preserved ejection fraction.

Heart failure with preserved ejection fraction (HFpEF) has recently emerged as an insidiously and increasingly prevalent heart failure phenotype. HFpEF often occurs in the context of hypertension and obesity and presents with diastolic dysfunction, ventricular hypertrophy, and myocardial fibrosis. Despite growing study of HFpEF, the causal links between early metabolic changes, bioenergetic perturbations, and cardiac structural remodeling remain unclear.

Increasing Graduate Student Awareness of Cultural Competence Through Bias Exploration Related to Diverse Cultural Families.

Emphasis by the American Nurses Association and the American Association of Colleges of Nursing regarding the importance of cultural competence in nursing education led to the development of a strategy to address personal bias in graduate nursing students. With the updated Essentials and a change to competency-based education, a need to address culturally congruent practices while increasing awareness of professional organization recommendations exists. Since Domain 2 of the Essentials highlights that culturally competent care is essential to person-centered care, a strategy that enhances knowledge by expanding the definition of culture beyond ethnicity and race was developed.

Interfacing CuO, CuBiO, and protective metal oxide layers to boost solar-driven photoelectrochemical hydrogen evolution.

This article reports the development of CuO|CuBiO photocathodes stabilized by protective layers of TiO, MgO, or NiO, with Pt or MoS nanoparticles serving as co-catalysts to facilitate H evolution. Most notably, this work demonstrates the first application of MgO as a protection/passivation layer for photocathodes in a water-splitting cell. All configurations of photocathodes were studied structurally, morphologically, and photoelectrochemically revealing that CuO|CuBiO|MgO|Pt photocathodes achieve the highest stable photocurrent densities of -200 μA cm for over 3 hours with a Faradaic efficiency of ∼90%.
