Background: Acute care hospitalization has been associated with older adult home falls after discharge, but less is known about the effects of hospital- and patient-related factors on home fall risk.

Objectives: This study compares the effects of hospital length of stay, medical condition, history of falls, and home health care on period rates of home falls after discharge from acute care hospitalization.

Methods: This was a retrospective cohort study comparing period rates of home injury falls among older adults (age ≥ 65) occurring after discharge from an acute care hospitalization.

ISG15, an IFN-stimulated gene, plays a crucial role in modulating immune responses during viral infections. Its upregulation is part of the host's defense mechanism against viruses, contributing to the antiviral state of cells. However, altered ISG15 expression can also lead to immune dysregulation and pathological outcomes, particularly during persistent viral infections.

Rab11 family interacting protein 4 (Rab11-FIP4) regulates endocytic trafficking. A possible role for Rab11-FIP4 in the regulation of lysosomal function has been proposed, but its precise function in the regulation of cellular homeostasis is unknown. By mRNA array and protein analysis, we found that Rab11-FIP4 is downregulated in the lysosomal storage disease cystinosis, which is caused by genetic defects in the lysosomal cystine transporter, cystinosin.

Defective endomembrane dynamics in Rab27a deficiency impairs nucleic acid sensing and cytokine secretion in immune cells.

Endosomal Toll-like receptors (eTLRs) are essential for the sensing of non-self through RNA and DNA detection. Here, using spatiotemporal analysis of vesicular dynamics, super-resolution microscopy studies, and functional assays, we show that endomembrane defects associated with the deficiency of the small GTPase Rab27a cause delayed eTLR ligand recognition, defective early signaling, and impaired cytokine secretion. Rab27a-deficient neutrophils show retention of eTLRs in amphisomes and impaired ligand internalization.

Background: More people who smoke and are living with HIV now die from tobacco-related diseases than HIV itself. Most people are ambivalent about quitting smoking and want to quit someday but not yet. Scalable, effective interventions are needed to motivate and support smoking cessation among people ambivalent about quitting smoking (PAQS) who are living with HIV.
