Outbreak of perichondritis associated with ear piercings and a contaminated water system.

In September 2023, the UK Health Security Agency's (UKHSA) South West Health Protection Team received notification of patients with perichondritis. All five cases had attended the same cosmetic piercing studio and a multi-disciplinary outbreak control investigation was subsequently initiated. An additional five cases attending the same studio were found.

Traumatic Hyphema with Commotio Retinae in a Special Operations Environment.

Traumatic ocular injuries from both combat- and noncombat-related activity remain a significant burden in active duty Ser- vicemembers and present a diagnostic and therapeutic challenge to Special Operations medics with limited resources in far forward and remote areas. Blunt ocular injury, whether from sports or battlefield engagement, can result in a variety of eyesight-threatening injuries, including hyphema, commotio retinae, iritis, uveitis, and open globe injury. The management of these conditions often requires teleconsultation with ophthalmology and potential evacuation, which is tailored to the resources available for the Special Operations Forces medic.

The Effect of Denosumab on Risk for Emergently Treated Hypocalcemia by Stage of Chronic Kidney Disease : A Target Trial Emulation.

Background: There is a paucity of data on treatment of osteoporosis in patients with advanced chronic kidney disease (CKD).

Objective: To assess the risk for emergently treated hypocalcemia with denosumab by stage of CKD and presence of CKD-mineral and bone disorder (CKD-MBD).

Design: Target trial emulation.

Efficacy of a Multimodal Digital Behavior Change Intervention on Lifestyle Behavior, Cardiometabolic Biomarkers, and Medical Expenditure: Protocol for a Randomized Controlled Trial.

Background: The US Preventive Services Task Force recommends providers offer individualized healthy behavior interventions for all adults, independent of their risk of cardiovascular disease. While strong evidence exists to support disease-specific programs designed to improve multiple lifestyle behaviors, approaches to adapting these interventions for a broader population are not well established. Digital behavior change interventions (DBCIs) hold promise as a more generalizable and scalable approach to overcome the resource and time limitations that traditional behavioral intervention programs face, especially within an occupational setting.
